Postgraduate Studies

Hong Kong Legislator Margaret Ng studied philosophy at HKU. She finished her MA thesis in philosophy in 1975. She received her law degree from the University of Cambridge. She is also a regular commentator in the local media.

Professor Kwong-loi Shun is Chair Professor of Philosophy at Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was the Vice-President and Principal of the University of Toronto at Scarborough. He studied mathematics and philosophy as an undergraduate at HKU, and finished his MA thesis in philosophy at HKU in 1978. He went on to study at Oxford and Stanford. He is the author of the book Mencius And Early Chinese Thought.

Financial assistance

• Studentships administered by the University usually include tuition support and a stipend for living expenses.
• Please note that studentship holders are still required by the university to pay an annual Composition Fee.
• Erik Kvan Postgraduate Scholarship - This Scholarship is awarded to the student reading for the degree of M.Phil. or Ph.D. in the Department of Philosophy or Psychology and have satisfactorily completed at least one year of study in the philosophy of mind or related areas in philosophy, or any of the following areas in psychology: perception, personality, cognitive psychology, social psychology, and have resided in Hong Kong for at least five years prior to their admission as a M.
