Aim and Objectives
The Master of Nursing (MNurs) programme provides opportunities for nurse graduates to prepare for advanced practice nursing in keeping with the rapid changes in health care in Hong Kong.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to the degree of Master of Nursing, candidates:
a. shall comply with the General Regulations;
b. shall be a Registered Nurse holding a Bachelor's degree in nursing from this University, or from another university, or a comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
c. shall be eligible for active nursing registration with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, or its equivalent; and
d. shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.


Programme Structure
The programme consists of 6 core modules (120 hours), 4 elective modules (80 hours) and either a clinical practicum or dissertation (200 hours), for a total of 400 hours.

The Master of Nursing Programme offers a part-time study mode, which consists of six semesters over two calendar years.

Students may join one* of the following tracks :

  • Advanced Surgical Nursing
  • Critical Care Nursing
  • Health Services Development and Planning
  • Primary Health Care Nursing
  • Public Health
  • Women's Health
  • Infection Control - the next intake date is September 2013
  • Paediatric Nursing - the next intake date is September 2014

*     Tracks are offered only if there is a viable number of students selecting that track.


Teaching and Learning
A variety of teaching and learning methods will be employed to provide the best learning environment for students. Examples of teaching and learning methods are lectures, seminars, tutorials, problem-based learning (PBL) and clinical work.
