Skill Learning and Expert Performance

Skill Learning and Expert Performance

This research area is concerned with determining the locus of expert performance, and using this knowledge to better understand how the learning, development and performance of perceptual-motor skills may be enhanced. It is an area in which the Institute has established an international profile.

  1. Presently, our work in skill learning and expert performance focuses primarily on examination of the perceptual mechanisms that underlie expertise in movement and the factors that limit skilled performance and
  2. investigation of skill learning methods (esp. implicit motor learning), not only in sport, but also in diverse populations in Hong Kong (e.g., medicine, movement disordered populations, children). Unique interdisciplinary collaborations are being established, and we expect to continue to break new ground in this human performance research.
