Benefits to Community

  • Clients can benefit from follow up exercise expertise with AHC exercise specialists as well as social/peer-support for exercise beyond that currently available through standard healthcare and fitness facilities.
  • Clients can benefit from improved health profiles, particularly in terms of key risk factors (body mass index, blood pressure, lipid and glucose profiles, etc).
  • Clients can benefit from enhanced physical activity behaviour in terms of improved activity levels, frequency of exercising, and exercise adherence.



Benefits to Research

  • The AHC provides infrastructure to support aspects of the University research themes of healthy ageing and public health and the IHP’s research priority area of physical activity and health.
  • A major project supported at the Active Health Clinic in 2008 was a territory wide research study to validate the annual physical fitness assessment for the Hong Kong Fire Services Department.
  • Other research collaborations and student research projects are also undertaken at the AHC.



Benefits to Teaching and Learning

  • The AHC provides improved hands-on ‘real world’ situated learning experiences for students majoring in exercise science.
  • The opportunity for an improved portfolio of skills and experiences for graduating exercise science students, increasing their career prospects and employability.
